Some products become more than products.
The F4 Orca is one of those products for F4.
It changed the trajectory of our company, opened foiling up to a huge number of riders and helped establish a new standard for what was possible from a compact, high-aspect foil.
So updating the Orca was never going to be a simple exercise.
We didn't want to change it just for the sake of having a new version.
Instead, we looked carefully at what made the Orca work, where we could improve it and how we could bring the construction up to the level of the rest of our current race and performance range.
The Orca philosophy
The original Orca introduced a combination that still defines the range today: high aspect ratio, efficient glide, speed and a level of control that makes a high-performance foil genuinely fun to ride.
The Orca uses a 12:1 aspect ratio and a high-camber profile to deliver a remarkable combination of glide, speed and turning response.
And despite its compact size, the low-end performance remains a major part of its character.
That combination is what makes the Orca useful across a surprisingly wide range of conditions — from connecting bumps and ground swell to carving and pumping.
Evolution, not reinvention
For V2, we've made a number of subtle refinements while keeping the character that made the Orca what it is.
The biggest change is underneath the surface.
The Orca 900, 800, 685 and 600 are now all built using our World Cup layup construction.
That means increased stiffness and a more direct connection between rider input and foil response.
It is one of those changes that might not look dramatic sitting on the beach.
You notice it when you ride.
Why World Cup layup?
As we've continued developing our World Cup equipment, we've learned more about how much construction contributes to the feel of a foil.
Stiffness isn't simply about making something stronger.
A stiffer foil responds more directly to changes in rider input, holds its designed shape more consistently under load and gives the rider a more connected feel.
The Orca already had the design characteristics we wanted.
The World Cup construction lets us take those characteristics further.
Still an Orca
That's important to us.
We didn't want to turn the Orca into something else.
It is still the foil that made us fall in love with high-aspect foiling — fast, efficient, incredibly capable and, most importantly, fun.
We just think the best version of it deserves the best construction we can give it.
